About NaRWP
The National Recreation and Wellness Program (NaRWP) is a flagship initiative dedicated to promoting active living, preventive health, and community well-being. Guided by the vision “Active Today, Healthier Tomorrow,” NaRWP seeks to integrate recreation into Ghana’s national development agenda by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. It responds to the growing challenge of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity etc, by promoting physical activity, wellness, and inclusion across the country.
NaRWP is structured around four key pillars Active Recreation, Wellness, Rehabilitation, and School Physical Activity each contributing to healthier communities and sustainable environments. These pillars foster inclusivity through traditional games, community fitness, wellness screenings, and the creation of safe public spaces for recreation.
NaRWP adopts an inclusive approach that ensures no Ghanaian is left behind. It focuses on persons with disabilities, the aged, youth, institutions, corporate bodies, informal workers, and vulnerable groups by promoting accessible and socially engaging recreational activities. The programme contributes to multiple development goals improving health outcomes, maximizing performance, enhancing education, creating jobs, fostering unity, and supporting national wellness tourism, with the focus on reducing The National Health Bill.
Through partnerships with ministries, agencies, local authorities, corporate bodies, and civil society, NaRWP envisions a healthier, more active, and united Ghana where recreation becomes a shared responsibility for national growth.
